National Obesity Awareness Week

Not many of you will know this but this week is National Obesity Awareness Week. It’s a topic that isn’t necessarily discussed but is very much relevant to a lot of our lives. With 62% of adults in the UK being over-weight or obese we are either part of that 62% or someone we know is.

Obesity has a long list of negative health effects to our bodies. These include:

  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Some types of cancer, including breast and bowel cancer
  • Stroke
  • Coronary heart disease
  • High bloody pressure
  • Gallstones
  • Reduced fertility
  • Liver disease and kidney disease
  • Sleep apnoea

These are only a few of the negative health complications caused by obesity. Not to mention, one of the biggest effects of obesity is also the negative phycological effects it has. There have been studies that show a link between depression and anxiety to obesity, which can have a huge effect on our outlook and the way we live our day-to-day lives.

So what can I do to help myself or someone around me?

The first step is addressing the problem and wanting to make the change.

Why do I want to lose weight?

Perhaps you have a medical issue or maybe you want to be able to spend more time with family and friends. Whatever your reason is, speak to someone about it! Your doctor or medical advisor will be able to help you come up with a plan and your friends or family will be on hand to help and encourage you.

Set yourself small, realistic goals. It won’t be an overnight process, but small progress adds up to big process over time and you’ll be so glad you started your journey.

The first step in taking control of what you’re eating is the hardest, because where do I start?!  We’d suggest start replacing one or possibly even 2 meals a day with our Formula 1 meal replacement shake. They give your body a healthy balanced of macro (proteins, fats, carbohydrates) and micro (vitamin and minerals) nutrition and they’re SO quick and easy to make! Meaning there’s no faffing about making a time-consuming healthy meal.

If you need any help choosing a plan to follow for yourself or want to suggest a plan to someone please don’t hesitate in contacting us for help.
